The picture frame. The whole fraction. And their partnered product, creative.
The Who and What of Frame Fraction Creative.
Frame Fraction Creative is a personal portfolio. While all of the showcased work, client interactions, and consulting oversight was accomplished as an in-house designer, the back-of-house operations functioned much like a compact creative agency. Instead of a robust team diversified through silos, I changed metaphorical creative hats in order to adapt to my various roles. Websites were not cycled through numerous departments; once I collected all of the content, in some cases including the copy I wrote, I moved onto the wireframe. Plan approved, and off I went into production, most commonly via SquareSpace. With uninterrupted execution, a website could be live from plan to url connection in about eight hours.
Having an intimate understanding of an entire process - whether it be with a website, brand, signage package, all of the above, I have benefited from years of agile design practice. Subsequently, I feel team learning and sharing and having exposure to a range of approaches and artistry is paramount.
Frame Fraction Creative is the process of my design. In their fundamental applications - design jargon included: a frame is an Indesign tool (keyboard shortcut “F”). While using these frames as measurements and guides versus a grid to design, I build unity - sometimes through tension, with fractions - page margins at a third of an inch, photos and captions separated by a half of an inch, etcetera. Each fractional frame is my portable spacing analysis, brought along my layout journey, spread by spread.
These precise frames, affectionately referred to as boxes, litter my pages - or illustrator artboards. And through dimension dictation, I create environments prime for exploration as the cultivation of my creativity.
